Title: Where pain meets function- Integrating movement-evoked pain into a mechanism-based approach
Description: We will discuss a mechanism-based approach evaluation while highlighting movement-evoked pain as a means of integrating the assessment of motor dysfunction with pain. A review of neurobiological pain mechanisms will be incorporated with impact on psychological factors and the movement system (and vice versa). Patient cases will be used to illustrate application of a mechanism-based approach to guide evaluation and treatment.
Goals:
Understand the value of using a mechanism-based approach to pain management
Explain the integration of a pain mechanism-based approach with movement-evoked pain to guide patient evaluation and care
Describe specific pain mechanism assessment techniques and generate an intervention approach to address specific pain mechanisms associated with nociceptive, neuropathic, and nociplastic pain
